The neo-Renaissance style developed between 1820 and 1890. In the first half of the 19th century, the idea of drawing on the reworking of stylistic models from the past or from exotic civilizations emerged for the creation of period furniture . They were elaborated on the basis of a careful analysis of the monuments but, much more often, on the recovery of elements and suggestive tones of the period.
The styles of the past were adapted to the needs of the present. They could be present at the same time: each room was furnished with a different and particular style, based on what they liked best.
In Italy this style develops in the second half of the 19th century. It is a current that is mainly interested in architecture. Despite this, they also thought about what the new neo-Renaissance buildings contained. The neo-Renaissance style furniture is easily recognizable as it is important, massive and made of walnut. They take up the Renaissance style especially as regards the typical decorative motifs of the 16th century.

Industrial production had already developed during this period. These pieces of furniture , on the other hand, differed in the handcrafted production of the carvings. Neo-Renaissance furniture follows a construction canon that starts from a solid and massive base where elements such as telamons, sphinxes, winged dragons and fantastic figures are often carved.
Finally, the upper part is carved in a very detailed way with pediments, winged cherubs, masks, still lifes and pendulums.
The fundamental rule with which these antique furniture were produced was: horror vacui, that is, every empty space had to be eliminated.
