Art Nouveau

Art Nouveau was born in France between the end of the 1800s and the early 1900s. The basic idea of this movement that influenced all types of art was to modernize design by escaping the historical styles that had always been fashionable in previous years. It is a style that focuses on decorative elegance: soft and sinuous lines that intertwine harmoniously. It is inspired by nature trying to stylize all natural elements.
In Italy the same movement develops but with a different name: style Liberty . It took its name from the “LIBERTY & CO. LTD” in Milan where fabrics and objects defined as “bizarre” were designed for the first time. The Art Nouveau features mainly follow the Art Nouveau guideline.

Art Nouveau and liberty style

Art Nouveau furniture

The Art Nouveau furniture aims to create a harmonious and coherent environment with the exterior of the building. Therefore, drawings were made for every type of period furniture , showcase, chair and all the objects present in the room, even the stairs.
Following the characteristics of Art Nouveau furniture, wood was also carved in Italy in such a way as to have clear and irregular contours. The designs had sinuous curves that often followed the grain of the wood.
The Liberty style is easily recognizable thanks to its ornamental style , its sinuous and continuous lines, its movement, its aesthetic refinement and its attention to detail.
Furthermore, the Liberty style was forced to go against the industrial production of objects in series even if it then used it to disseminate its prints. Above all, in the latter one could notice the fascination for distant and mysterious lands. For example, elements of the Japanese tradition were taken up in many works.
