Description

Monumental edition of D'Annunzio's complete works promoted by the publisher Arnoldo Mondadori through the ad hoc establishment of a "National Institute for the edition of all the works of Gabriele D'Annunzio", sponsored by Vittorio Emanuele III and with Benito Mussolini as honorary president. The printing was entrusted to Hans Mardersteig, whose Officina Bodoni, founded in 1922 in Montagnola, Switzerland, was purchased by Mondadori and moved to Verona specifically for the printing of this work. The plan of the work was drawn up by D'Annunzio himself and 2,501 copies of this edition were printed on tissue paper produced manually by Cartiere Pietro Miliani of Fabriano, with the watermark containing D'Annunzio's most famous motto, "I have what I donated" enclosed in the cornucopia; 209 copies printed on the press on imperial Japanese paper, 6 copies printed on parchment, out of series, of works indicated by the author and finally only 3 copies printed on parchment and bound in full morocco intended for the King, Mussolini and D'Annunzio himself. Our copies bear the number 2108. Splendid typographic design with the unmistakable Bodoni characters of Mardersteig of exceptional clarity and elegance.
