Four volumes in excellent condition, in a hardback slipcase with leather trim on the upper and lower edges: dust spots and slight signs of wear on the edges and corners; abrasion on the back cover; satin extraction ribbon present. Beautiful full leather bindings with gilded and blind titles and decorations on the front covers and on the four-ribbed spines; gilded and blind decorations on the back covers. Transparent acetate dust jackets with very visible corrugation and tears. Lateral and lower edges with burrs; gilded head cuts: slight traces of dust. Editorial flyer attached. Text in Italian in Volumes 1, 2 and 3. Text in Greek in Volume 4.

Description

This edition of "I Deipnosofisti (I dotti a banchetto)" by Ateneo, the first Italian translation with commentary based on a project by Luciano Canfora, was set in Dante type by Giovanni Mardersteig and printed in the Bertoncello Artigrafiche workshops in Cittadella (Padua) on special "Vergatona" paper from the Magnani 2000 Spa paper mill in Pescia on behalf of Salerno Editrice srl. 399 copies were printed, numbered from 1 to 399, in addition to 55 copies distinguished by Roman numerals from I to LV. November 2001. Copy 303. Introduction by Christian Jacob. The volumes contain over 160 b/w and color plates. Text in Italian in Volumes 1, 2 and 3. Text in Greek in Volume 4.
