Description

First edition published by Rizzoli in 1966, designed and laid out by Piero Raggi under the direction of Lucio Fossati. The text of the prayer, presented in Latin, Italian, Spanish, English, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Portuguese and Chinese, is illustrated with 9 lithographed colour plates expressly painted by Salvador Dalì (the first on glossy paper) and protected by Japanese tissue paper, one for each verse of the text. The cover drawing is also by Dalì, and is repeated on the frontispiece. The work is preceded by the dedication: “Dulcissimo Pontifici Maximo PAULO VI hoc opus quod perfectum habet Salvador Dalì hilari vultu animoque grato”. Reproduced in the appendix is a 14th-century Gregorian chant score from the Missale Plenum Ultrajectinum of the Biblioteca Braidense in Milan.
