Description

First edition of the poem in Milanese dialect by Giovanni Rajberti, a singular and popular figure of a literate doctor, who flanked his clinical activity in the hospitals of Milanoe and Monza with a prolific production of texts in prose and poetry, in language and in dialect. The occasion of the poem The railways is the inauguration of the Milan-Monza line on August 17, 1840; after having exalted the infinite possibilities of progress inherent in the diffusion of railway lines at an economic and social level, the poem continues with the tragicomic description of the author's first journey the day after the inauguration: a breakdown forces the train that has just left to return to station….. The poem was written in Grumello in the house of Giuditta Pasta, the great soprano of the time, to whom it is dedicated. The text is followed by notes on James Watt, in Italian and French
