Description

First edition of this collection of personal notes and reflections made during a winter stay in the Eternal City. The author deliberately focuses on descriptions of marginal places and episodes, given that the great history and famous monuments have already filled countless volumes (there is also a chapter dedicated to Notes on comestibles, with lively representations of Roman neighborhood markets). The work is beautifully illustrated by 30 very fine copper engravings by W.B. Cook. Double title page, the first embellished with 8 engravings of Roman views
